Enyimba football club, Nigeria’s representative at the maiden edition of the African Football League, Sunday night lost to visiting Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Enyimba in August had failed to qualify from the first preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League after emerging NPFL champions needed to prove their strength but failed to visitors in the first 45 minutes of the encounter.

A first half penalty goal seals the win for the Moroccan side while Alalibo Somiari’s late red card wraps up a disappointing night for the Nigerian Champions.

The return leg which will take place next Wednesday in Morocco will determine which team will progress to the semi-finals of the African Football League with aggregate.
