Army Confirms The Parchment’s Report. Says Personnel Who Killed Youth In Calabar, Tried To Run Out Of The Town.

The Nigerian Army have reacted to the killing of Gray Agbesu a youth in Calabar south local government area of Cross River State. The deceased was a final year student of the University of Calabar.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations, in a statement sent to The Parchment said the serving soldier who killed Gray Agbesu actually tried to flee Calabar having realised the gravity of what he did, before he was arrested by the Army authorities.

The Army statement came a day after The Parchment reported that the Army personnel who killed Gray Agbesu has been arrested and is currently in the military facility.

“On receiving the information, the soldier was apprehended by own troops, while trying to flee out of the town to evade arrest. He is currently in the custody of the Military Police and investigation has commenced to ascertain the circumstances that led to the killing of the student.” Nwachukwu said.

According to him, the Nigerian Army have set up an investigation panel to unravel the reason behind the unfortunate situation.

He said that already, the Commander, 13 brigade has visited the community where the incident took place and he addressed the youths, as well as the family of the deceased, assuring that justice will be done.

“The Nigerian Army remains a disciplined and professional organization and will not condone such unprofessional conduct by any of its personnel.

“The Nigerian Army will continue to operate within the ambit of the law, hence, would not tolerate any act of infringement on the fundamental human rights of citizens by its personnel.

“We assure the family and the community, that the soldier will be duly investigated and made to face judicial processes as deemed appropriate by the law” he maintained.
