2023: Usani Usani Wins PRP Governorship Ticket.

Former minister of Niger Delta affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani has won his party’s governorship primary election.

Pastor Usani who was the sole candidate of the gubernatorial primaries held today in Calabar, emerged the as the flag bearer of the People’s Redemption Party through affirmation according to the electoral guideline.

The announcement of Pastor Usani Usani as his party’s flag bearer by the returning officer, Mr. Anyim Temple was received with a resounding applause by party faithfuls.


A founding member of the All Progressives Party, Pastor Usani defected from the APC few weeks ago to the PRP.

The former minister who has contested governorship elections in the state since 2003 will be expected to square up against big political parties like the APC and PDP during the 2023 governorship election in Cross River State.

In his acceptance speech, Pastor Usani said although the burden of the nomination is a heavy one, it is however, one that he is willing to accept. “having enjoyed the magnanimity of the party, I am very encouraged because people came all the way from different parts of the state to witness this. In an era were people will not do anything except there is naira and dollar to induce them, but you have come all the way on your own to identify with this party. I appreciate this and for me, it is a mark of progress.

“People have said, he party is not on ground, but I have always responded to them that, it is people that make the party” he said.

According to him, although some prominent people have come out to show interest in different positions, he has remained reluctant to accept. “ it is deliberate, because we need to be sure if those who are genuine and those who are coming to cauy confusion in our midst. According to the electoral law, it allows for atleast 150 days before election for substitution of candidates, so for those who are genuine, we will know”

The process was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security officials and the media.
