66 bag first class as UNICAL graduates 13,786 students, Akpabio, Wike, Otu, others for Honours

The University of Calabar, has announced its 37th convocation activities, commencing on Monday, March 17, 2025, and will climax on Saturday, March 22, 2025

The University Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Banku Obi disclosed this on Monday at the Council Chamber during the Press Briefing which provided elaborate information to herald the institution’s most-celebrated event.

The Vice Chancellor hinted that, this year’s convocation, approximately 13,786 students are expected to participate in the ceremony, with the following breakdown of 181 Diploma students, 11,728 First Degree graduates, 876 Master’s Degree holders, 572 Ph.D. candidates, 249 PGD students, and seven recipients of the Postdoctoral Diploma in  Education.

She said that, 66 students earned First Class, 3,143 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 7,527 with Second Class Lower Division, 925 with Third Class, and seven with Pass degrees.

Prof. Obi added that honorary degrees of the university would be conferred on recipients who have made remarkable contributions to society, positively impacting numerous lives through their service. 

She listed the honourees to include: Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio, H.E. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, H.E. Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Bisong Obi, Hon. Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, JSC , and Prince Arthur I. Eze.
