Ahead of the 2024 World Environment Day Celebration, Cross River State Government has disclosed plans to join the international Community in marking  the World Environment Day. Speaking during a Media Parley with Journalists,Tuesday in his office, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi revealed that plans were on top gear to mark this year’s celebration.

In a deepened conversation in view of this year’s theme; Land Restoration, desertification and drought resilience, the Environment Commissioner reiterated that there is an increased need to care for the Environment inorder to tackle the enormous Environmental crisis accompanied by Climate change Menace and other human activities. 

Appreciating the efforts of the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu for spearheading the commemoration of this year’s celebration, Hon. Osogi hinted that the event will be a two day  activities featuring; carnival float, Seminar /paper presentation, visit to Erosion sites and Tree Planting.

Notably, the event  kicked off with symbolic Tree planting along Jonathan Bypass led by Commissioner for Environment and accompanied by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment Barr. Mrs. Rosemary Onah, Directors of the ministry, Academias, Non Governmental Organizations and Students, followed by on- the-spot accesment of Erosion sites as well as lectures by Environmental Experts.

World Environment Day Celebration marked annually on the 5th of June, is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our Environment. Hopes are raised high that this year’s theme will further strengthen the drive to end land degradation, drought and desertification.
