UNICROSS JAC declares indefinite strike

The University of Cross River State Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), has declared an indefinite strike.

This comes as the school management on Tuesday, announced an extension to the two-week break earlier granted to students due circumstances beyond the control of the University’s Management.

In a press statement addressed to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Francisca Bassey, and signed by the Joint Action Committee Leaders of UNICROSS, the unions stated:

“The Joint Action Committce JAC) of SSANU, NASU and NAAT of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) hereby resumes her suspended Industrial Action by 12:00 midnight of 27 February, 2025 as stated in the reminder to Manngement dated 18th February, 2025.

“Please note that this strike is total and comprehensive until our demands are met.” The statement added

Meanwhile, the UNICROSS Student’s Union Government has implore the Governor, Senator Bassey Otu to use His office to intervene in the lingering crisis that has halted academic activities in the institution.

The appeal was made through a letter signed by the Senate President, Sen. Kanung Benjamin, 16th Plutonium Assembly, dated February 27, 2025, stating that academic activities have been significantly affected with concerned about the poor academic progress which is below contemporary students in other higher institution of learning.

The union appeal to the Governor to please speed up the process of handling the underlying issues and implement a lasting solution.

The Parchment earlier reported that the issues are dispute by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), demanding for the implementation of new minimum age and consequential salary adjustment from the management.
