There was a failed attempt yesterday to invade the secretariat of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists, ACROJ.
The association which houses major online media practitioners including Journalists and bloggers, have their secretariat located along the busy Marian road in Calabar the state capital.
Although the invaders were unable to gain access into the offices within the secretariat, some volunteer staff said the criminals succeded in destroying the door leading to the reception hall.
The media association have been very vocal on major issues in the state, including investigating and making public, dubious practices carried out by some members of the state government.
ACROJ secretary, Jeremiah Archibong confirmed the story but said the matter has been officially reported to the police.
Archibong wondered what could have been the motive behind the criminal attempt on the media facility.
According to him “My colleagues upon resuming from the weekend noticed that the front door was tampered with and left open, the burglar couldn’t have access to the main building because the doors were fortified. But we are suprised as to who would want to have illegal access to our premises and for what reason.”
In the past, some members of the association have come under heavy accusations, mostly suspected to be politically motivated. While some of them have been arrested and detained, some are still standing trial over frivolous charges.
