A fire outbreak has been reported in the University of Calabar.
According to our reporter who was at the scene of the incident, the fire which started at the early hours of today, Sunday 6 February razed an office within the department of history and international relations, including students files, office appliances among other things. But could not go further because of timely intervention of staffs and students.
The cause of the fire as at the time of this report is still unknown.
The latest fire incident is coming about a week after The Parchment reported how fire razed the entire mathematics department in the same university last week.
In January this year, a fire incident was also reported at the female hostel of the University, destroying items worth several millions of naira.
The latest fire incident becomes the third since this year began.
Meanwhile, vice chancellor of the University, Prof Florence Obi is reportedly on a vacation in the United Kingdom. Prof Obi who was rumored to have been down with stroke, few days later released pictures where she is currently enjoying vacation. Despite reports of fire incidents, the university isbyet to make any statement, the VC is also adamant as she remains in the UK.
Management of the school have come under heavy criticism over the Indiscriminate hike in school fees and several other charges with several students already discouraged to continue their academic pursuit due to hike in fee.
