AKSU Student Set Ablaze Over Dispute on ‘Adulterated’ Fuel

A student of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has been set ablaze by a roadside petrol seller over a dispute.

Enwongo Akpan, a 200 level student of the department of Philosophy, Akwa Ibom State University, AKSU, while speaking from his hospital bed explain that on Saturday evening, He bought N500 petrol from a roadside dealer, who usually stay around Udoidiong junction for his Generator but the generator could not start.

He said that all he requested was for a refund of his money and the product taken back but the dealer ended up pouring the petrol on him.

Emana Attah, a student of the University who spoke with our reporter said: ”When the news broke out, students on Sunday stage a peaceful protest against a reoccurring community clash with students, calling on the school management to protect them”

Also, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nse Essien who commented on incident disclosed, “that he facilitated the transfer of the student from Mercy Hospital, Abak to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Stating that the student is stable and his receiving medical attention”

Police Public Relations Office, in the State, Mr. Odiko MacDon confirmed the incident, saying “Yes we are aware of the incident. But the suspect escaped from the scene before Police arrived. We are trailing the suspect now and he will soon be brought to book”.
