Renowned rights activist and governorship aspirant for the 2023 election in Cross River State, Amb, Nkoyo Toyo has been nominated as one of the most influential women leaders in Nigeria.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to African Union and Ethiopia was listed among other 100 outstanding women leaders in Nigeria that made the list of the 2022 edition of Nigeria Women Annual: 100 Leading Women.
The Nigeria Women Annual 100 Leading Women is the premier qualitative profiling of phenomenal women in Nigeria who have contributed to the development of Nigeria and the world. It is a gender-specific biographical compendium that responds to existing gender gaps in Nigeria’s biographical documentation and leadership.
It is said to be the most qualitative biographical profile on Nigeria’s most inspirational and influential women whose work will contribute to shaping Nigeria’s collective history in 2022.
Now in its 5th year, the compendium is published annually to commemorate the International Women’s Day, March 8. With two Cross Riverians, Amb. Nkoyo Toyo and the PDP national woman leader, Prof. Stella Effah-Atoe, making the list this year, Amb.Toyo enjoys the support of women across the country.
The former house of representatives member who is also the only female governorship aspirant in the 2023 elections under the platform of PDP has been a strong advocate for gender equality for over 40years.
The highly respected rights activist who is the founder of Gender And Development Action also sits on the board of several Civil Society Organizations.
If she gets the PDP ticket, it will be the first time a woman will be contesting the governorship election under the PDP in Nigeria.
