The Social Democratic Party, SDP has appointed Mr. Ambo Ekpenyong as it’s acting chairman in Cross River State.
A letter signed by national secretary of the party, Alhaji Shehu Gabam reads,
“ I am pleased to convey the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to appoint you as the Acting chairman of the Cross River State subject to the terms and conditions contained in article 19.6 of the party constitution 2018 as amended. Therefore, your appointment is in acting capacity pending congress in your state and further decision/detectives by National Working Committee (NWC)”
Mr. Ambo’s appointment follows the suspension from office of the former chairman, Chief Eni Ikpi Ibor.
Chief Eni Ikpi Ibor and 7 other State Chairmen were suspended at a National Executive Council meeting in Abuja for anti-party activities and lack of respect for the national party structure.
The council accused Chief Ini Ikpi for leading other chapter chairmen in the building up to the 2019 election to endorse the PDP and Governor Ayade against their Candidate Mr Eyo Ekpo, and further tried to sell the party again at the just concluded bye election in the state without regard to the national instructions.
Mr. Ambo will pilot the affairs of the party in the State pending the party’s congress in a yet to be announced date.
