The gubernatorial ambition of Sen. Sandy Onor, the People’s Democratic Party candidate in Cross River has again suffered a major setback as the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike’s faction of the PDP insist it will not work for the success of its presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.
Rising from a reconciliatory meeting early Wednesday in Port harcourt, River State, the major opposition party again failed in its attempt to close ranks and work for the success of the party as the PDP faction loyal to Mr. Wike walked out of the meeting.
Addressing the Press, former deputy national chairman of the party, Olabode George insisted that since the party could not listen to their demands, they were left with no other option than to refuse to support the party’s presidential candidate.
It maintained that the only option is for the national chairman of the party, Iyorcha Ayu to resign his position as chairman.
Also speaking, forner minister of information, Jerry Gana said there was no way the party could be trusted by Nigerians to restructure the country if they could not restructure the party.
With the recent development, hopes of the PDP in Cross River state has further depleted as factions loyal to Atiku Abubakar have vowed never to work for Sandy Onor, Ina clear case of retaliation.
With a party that is still struggling to recover from internal crisis as a result of botched zoning arrangements made in the state, the recent development has further darkened hopes of the major opposition party.
Prominent leader of the party in the state, who did not want his name in print told this reporter that there is no way the PDP in the state will get up to an average performance during the guber election. “what the Wike faction have done is to rather destroy the party even at the state and local government level. Like in Cross River state here, Atiku controls major power blocks who are prominent members of the party. So if he wants to frustrate our presidential candidate,there is no way we will support the governorship candidate who is his own person here’
Investigations reveals that already, Sen. Sandy Onor who was banking heavily on the heavy war chest in Rivers state is currently confused at the next cause of action.
