Several Nigerian Army personnel may have lost their lives as a Hilux Van conveying officers and personnel was involve in a ghastly accident along the Murtala Mohammed highway, Calabar.
The accident happened this afternoon at the bebobsco bend of the highway.
It is suspected that the driver who may have been on high speed, lost control of the vehicle under the heavy rains in the city capital.
The Parchment reporter who visited the scene of the incident while it was still raining saw men of the Nigerian army making efforts to pull those trapped out of their badly damaged vehicle.
Stern looking officials were seen parading the scene and preventing members of the public from taking pictures.
An ash colour Sienna which was damaged beyond recognition suspected to have been collided with the Army vehicle was seen close to the Army vehicle.
The incident is currently causing traffic gridlock along the highway.
When our reporter approached Ekpo Iso axis of the highway, a truck load of Nigerian Army personnel were also seen directing traffic under the heavy rains.
Calls put to the Nigeria Army Public Relations Officer in the state , Captain Aluko for comments was unanswered.
