The last batch of kidnap victim along the Calabar river have been released. The Parchment can report.
The victims were released late Saturday night according to reliable sources.
“they blind folded and drove us to the Calabar beach market close to Hawkings cemetery. By the time I opened my eyes, that was where I saw myself. But I thank God that I am out finally. We were the last set to leave the creeks after my family parted with N1.5million out of the M3 million they asked us to bring” one of the victims told this paper.
The Parchment had reported how travelers along the Calabar river were kidnapped by sea pirates while boarding a speedboat from the Safe Journey harbour along Marina road in Calabar to Oron in Akwa In State.
Before the release of the final batch of victims, a Prof with he University of Calabar identified simply as Effanga had been released after paying the 3 Million naira ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
This paper also learnt that two Naval officers were part of those kidnapped, contrary to reports that it was one Naval officer.
In a chat with one of the victims who was released recently, “sensing danger and to save their lives, the two Naval officers had to drop their staff identity cards right inside the sea. That was their saving grace otherwise, they would have been killed”
With the terrible nature of the Calabar-Itu road, alot of travelers who have turned to the waterways as a more viable means of transportation especially between the two sister states, faces serious risk with the emergence of seas pirates and other criminal activities along the Calabar river.
