C’River Environment Commissioner Berates Niger Mills Over Environmental Pollution

The Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Moses Osogi has berated the management of Niger Mills calabar,  for constant air pollution within its environ.

The Commissioner during a familiarization visit to the Company to asses it’s operational standards was   conducted round the facilities in company of his team to inspect their standards of operations where he expressed displeasure over the unhygienic premises the company does it’s day to day activities, stating that odorous and toxic pollutants are harmful to health and should be properly managed.

The General Manager of Niger Mills, Calabar, Mr Gregory Ehimhen, while reacting to the observation of the environment Boss, said the Company complies to safety measures and periodic analysis as part of her tradition over the years. He emphasized on their adherence to environment safety considering its location.

He noted that, the company will not and had never released effluent into the public space. Mr Gregory informed the Commissioner that the present location of the company was an industrial layout but has  been poached by private developers.

The GM stressed that the company is doing its best to reduce pollution through latest technology.
