The Cross River State Government, in partnership with Self Help Africa (SHA), will host a Stakeholders’ Meeting under the WASH System for Health (WS4H) Programme on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Obubra Local Government Council Hall. The event is organized through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSSA) and the Ministry of Water Resources.
Ahead of the meeting, Hon. Kingsley Arikpo, Chairman of Obubra Local Government Area, praised the collaboration and assured the organisers of the council’s full support. He noted the relevance of the event, stressing that access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene is a key development focus for rural communities.
“We welcome you and appreciate your choice of Obubra,” Hon. Arikpo said.
Mr. Felix Irek, who led the advance team, stated that Obubra was chosen as the venue due to its high incidence of cholera. He emphasised that the WS4H programme seeks to enhance WASH services to improve health outcomes in vulnerable communities.
“This programme is aimed at expanding access to safe water and sanitation while boosting public health,” he explained, detailing the initiative’s timeline and goals.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty Ovarr Sylvanus Uduma Ovat, Acting Paramount Ruler of Obubra, who expressed support and appreciation for the programme. Likewise, Hon. Egbe Abeng, Member representing Obubra Constituency II, described WS4H as a significant step toward improved health and hygiene, pledging to attend the meeting.
The stakeholders’ forum will bring together government officials, civil society groups, traditional leaders, and community-based organisations. Discussions will focus on strengthening WASH systems for sustainable and accountable service delivery across the state.
The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m., featuring interactive sessions to foster collaboration and lasting impact in local WASH implementation.
