“Mr speaker, I feel highly honoured and privileged to address this house today. Mr. Speaker you are partners in managing the state affairs of our dear state. As a member of this family, my coming here today is for us to discuss a little bit about the affairs of the state.
“As a state, we have gone through a lot. We have lost Bakassi while some people are making billions out from it, we lost our oil wells and most of the times, we come back from FAAC with negative balance. If governor Ayade was not blessed with some kind of ingenuity, if he was not blessed with superior intellect, it would have been really very difficult for us.
“ our search for the next governor of the state, we must look for a man who has the connection with the people at the grassroot, a man whose name ring a bell across the entire three senatorial district of the state, a man who can open doors for us in Abuja and a man with the right international connection.
“My coming here today is to say with all humility that, I am tested and trusted. I have the requisite international exposure to pilot the affaires of this state. It is with this that with utmost humility but with all sense of sincerity, I come here today to inform you that I am fully ready to run for the office of governor of Cross River State come 2023.
“ I am given the mandate, I will build on the achievements of governor Ben Ayade’s administration, especially in the area of human capital development” he said.
Responding, speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Eteng Williams expressed joy over the visit of the aspirant. “we have been waiting anxiously for this day. For the mean person and he is here” he said.
“when you have the best, there is no need looking for another”
The speaker who recalled how even with his entourage, he could not pass along the Murtala Mohammed highway due to heavy human traffic when Sen. Otu visited the APC Secretariat, described him as a man of the people and the best among the rest.
Also, the leader of the house, Hon. Peter Odey thanked Sen. Otu and said “there is nobody here that has not heard about the name, Sweet Prince of Cross River State. You started the politics of empowerment in Cross River . When you were doing your empowerment in the south, those of use from the north will just sit back and admire.
“everybody knows the love that you have for the people of the south, we cannot wait to see that love spread to the central and the north when you become our governor.
“When the governorship moved to central it was Sen. Liyel Imoke, when it came to the north, we chose Sen. Ben Ayade, now it is coming to the south, we will choose Sen. Prince Otu.
“We are not here to sing your praises, but these are facts that everyone in Cross River State knows. I know everyone wants to be the governor of Cross River State or any state for that matter. But we know that Cross Riverians loves and want you. Even the people in PDP are praying that our party should not give you the ticket, so it will be easy for them. But we have told them that we will bring Sen. Prince Otu.
“When we were in the PDP and it was clear that power was going to the south, we were saying, how we wish Prince Otu will come and join us in PDP, but as God would have it, we are glad that we have come to join you in APC”
The house leader then cautioned members of the house, “It is your right to choose, choose rightly, you will not regret it. . But if you make the wrong choose you will complain. As we go we will advise ourselves, we will talk to our people to see the reason to make the right choice” he maintained.
