The Cross River State Government has been called upon to ensure the implementation the report of the
Boundaries Committee set up by the former governor of the state, Senator Liyel Imoke to curb killings of citizens of Nko and Onyadama in Yakurr and Abi Local Government Areas of the state.
The chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State, Dan Obo who spoke with journalists expressed frustration over what he described as the lack of interest from political office holders and appointees from the communities, for not showing enough political will to restore peace and normalcy in the Area.
He further expressed worries over the steady war which has affected transportation, peace and
development in both areas thereby giving Cross River State a bad image.
Obo appealed to the youths to stop fighting and the killings, stressing the need for government to take the area for developmental purpose.
The crisis in Nko and Onyadama has claimed lives; people have also been wounded and displaced, with
properties worth millions destroyed.
Over the weekend, Nko youths had allegedly shot and critically wounded an army commander including six others while trying to maintain peace and order in the community. The military authority ordered a major operation to fish out the culprits with the Governor asking the Nko community to produce six soldiers believed to have been killed or missing.
Consequently, the Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Avade has ordered the dethronement and decertification of the two community heads, Obol Lopon of Nko, Obol Etim Avomobiand and the clan head of Onyadama, Ovarr Vincent Erena, with immediate effect.
The order was contained in a statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Linus Obogo.
