The former Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS), Mr. Ekpenyong Ita has donated N500,000 to a Cross River student Miss Glory Ita who was in need of tuition for the Nigerian Law School.
Mr. Ita gave the cash donation on Thursday shortly after Miss Glory Ita made a public outcry about a hike in fees she needed for law school on facebook which went viral.
Miss Ita’s post made on Facebook reads:
“Please, this is my appeal to my fellow citizens. I have graduated from the University of Calabar under the faculty of law since 2021. My visually challenged father and my mum who is a petty trader have tried to see me through this far.
“My name has been out for law school since 2021 but I have no money, so I decided to go for NYSc first and I’ve completed it since October 2023.
“I have reapplied for law school again but the money has been increased from two hundred and ninety-six thousand naira to four hundred and seventy thousand naira excluding feeding and other logistics.
“I have no godfather but you fellow Nigerians are my godfather. Please I need your financial support, no matter how small it is.
“In this post are some of my credentials. My account number is 0681206316 ITA, GLORY ASUQUO, GT Bank, 08147857515, God bless you as you help a sister”.
Touched by the compelling story, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, Mr. Darlingon Edem, requested for her contact which led to the support from the former DG of DSS.
Mr. Darlington while presenting the cash donation to Miss Glory also revealed that Mr. Ita has promised to sponsor her air ticket to Abuja for her law school, whenever she is ready.
Miss Glory has acknowledged receipts of the sum of N500,000 support from the retired DSS DG.
