The Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services in the state.
The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey made the expression when the Head of Field Office, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Mr Mohammed Nafion and his team Paid him a courtesy call on Tuesday , 5th march 2024, at the Government’s house Calabar.
Rt. Hon Odey lauded UNHCR Calabar field office for all their contributions to health care service delivery in the state which he has followed right from his time as member of the State House of Assembly.
He assured the organization that the Sen. Prince Bassey Otu’s administration will continue to create an enabling environment for them to thrive in the state.
Earlier, the Head of Field Office, Mr. Mohammed Nafion said they were very delighted to be given audience in such a short notice. He stated that the aim of their visit was to thank the government of Cross River State for their support and make a ceremonial flag-off of the distribution of oxygen concentration machines in the state for those suffering from breathing difficulties.
Also speaking during the visit, the Protection Associate, UNHCR Calabar, Mr. Richard Effiong said besides working with refugees, the bulk of their work in Cross River State has been in health care provision, renovation of health centers as well as the building of a guest house for the nurses who work in remote areas such as Oban and Ekpong Anaku in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, expressed satisfaction with the model and quality of healthcare provided by UNHCR, having visited primary health care centers across the state. He gave them the assurance that the oxygen concentration machines donated will be promptly distributed for use by health care centers in need of them.
