Consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 governorship election, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu today returned to Calabar after successfully going through his screening at the party headquarters in Abuja.
The former lawmaker was received at the arrival wing of the Margaret Ekpo international airport in Calabar by a marmot crowd of supporters and admirers.
At the airport, various political support groups waited for several hours to receive the man they refer to as Sweet Prince.
A representative of the Igbo community in Cross River State who spoke with our reporter expressed excitement at the emergence of Sen. Otu as the consensus candidate of the APC. insisting that he is the man all Cross Riverians and non Cross Riveirians want as governor cone 2023.
The long entourage of the former lawmaker caused heavy gridlock along major routes within the city centre.
At his campaign secretariat, Director General of the campaign organization, Amb. Soni Abang assures Cross Riverians that the campaign team will appoint very erudite and highly intelligent people to head the different directorate of the campaign.
Addressing journalists at his campaign office, Sen. Prince Otu maintained that the state has gone through a lot, stressing that he was in the race to restore the fortunes of the state as well as ensure the economic empowerment of young people
“ we have come to that time which power has to leave one person to another. When we get into government by the grace of God, in less than no time, you will all see the fruit of a new Cross River. I am not a new person. Coming from a very firm background and knowing every challenge the state faces, I know already that we are suffering under a heavy burden, if not for the intellectual capacity of governor Ben Ayade we would have been in a very bad shape by now” he said.
About the lost of of Bakassi to the republic of Cameroon, Sen. Otu assured that, he will not relent but will try and push for a second hearing if the matter.
He exonerated the governor Ben Ayade led admiration from the debt burden of the state, maintaining that the problem the state is currently confronted with, was not the fault of the current administration.
On economic development, Sen. Otu said “We want to make sure we build revenue streams in every sector of our economy. We will begin with human capital development and then see how we can begin to export some of our agricultural products, at least the seasonal ones”
Calling on other aspirants within the APC to join hands and support the party, Sen. Otu emphasized that power belong to God.
According to him, “the state is full of alot of human resources, we promise to carry everyone along including those who aspired to the position of governor within our party the APC”
When asked about his reaction regarding a petition currently circulating the social media space, Sen. Otu dismissed it as fake, he said already, he has contacted security agents to investigate the source of the petition.
