Hon Daniel Asuquo currently representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency in House of Representatives has formerly declared his intention to contest for the position of Cross River State governor, under PDP in the 2023 elections.
Asuquo disclosed that as a one time Chairman of local government, Director General of State Electrification Agency and a three time member of House of Representatives he has achieved much and impacted positively on the people in the areas of roads, schools,bridges, water, street lights and hospitals amongst , stressing that his score card is there for everyone to see.
He therefore, solicited for support to serve the people, adding that since he started his political journey in PDP, the party and people had always wanted the best for the state
Asuquo said he will continue from the remarkable records of Donald Duke in tourism, liyel Imoke in rural transformation and Ben Ayade in industrialization.
On the issue of zoning, Hon. Asuqwo noted that the Governorship position has rotated from the south to the central and to the north and after 16 years it is the turn of the south and that it is not a matter of friendship and personal agenda
” The south has the population to produce a governor and in the south , the Efik have produced a governor and the governor this time is not for the Efik speaking South “, emphasising that” anybody who feels he is entitled should come out because I am open for contest “
He explained that both the party’s constitution and that of the federal Republic of Nigeria recognize the principles of zoning right from the local government level upwards
Dansuki described himself as a product of the people, bridge builder with a tall dream and as well ready to contest for the the primary of the party in partnership with party members.
On economy of the state, Asuquo described the state as a processing hub and promised to revamp rural infrastructure, ecotourism, improve education by introducing technology, strengthen health centers, initiate development modules to take over projects as well as strengthen security through PPP
Responding, the state Chairman of PDP, Barr Vena Ikem, noted that the party is determined to give Cross River to PDP and commended members of national assembly for their courage in putting the party where it is today
He called on the executive members of the the party not to be partisan as every aspirant will be given a level playing ground
On zoning, Ikem said, ” Zoning is like a mushroom , if you have to pull it , you pull it with caution as the party will do the needful when it is necessary”
