The executive chairman of Odukpani local government , Hon. Amb. Justina Edem has began the construction of key critical rural roads in the local government area.
The chairman recently flagged off the construction of Ndon Nyam, Akim Akim, Ikpet and Inua-Akpa road stretching several kilometers.
According to some residents of the area who were full of gratitude to the chairman, the road has been abandoned by successive government for over 20 years. They prayed God to grant the chairman the will to finish the project.
Inua-Akpa road remained for several years a major route to Calabar, the state capital for big merchants who came in from Uruan in Akwa Ibom and Afikpo in Ebonyi state before the construction of the Calabar-Itu road.
“we have what we can call a seaport here where goods landed from several parts outside the state. From here they take it out to other parts of the state. As you can see, we also have a wonderful ecotourism here, which if harnessed properly, you will have many people coming here to relax. But because of the bad road, we cannot achieve anything. When this road is completed, you can be sure our businesses will thrive again”. One resident, Edet Akiba told our reporter.
Also, one of the women leaders in the community, Mrs Ayianwan Edet while commending the council boss said,
“our chairman ma, thank you for coming to our aid after over 20 years of bad road, so that the people of Inua-Akpa can take their resources to Okirikang market and other places. No wonder you are called the White Queen of Okoyong. We say God bless you and your entire family.
“The tears you have wiped from our eyes today after being deceived by so many politicians will remain in our memories. Ma, you have printed your name on the sands of time. For this singular act of yours, the people of Inua-Akpa will forever remain grateful”
The Parchment gathered that the Inua-Akpa road has severally been awarded by the federal government interventionist agency, Niger Delta Development Commission and the Cross River State government without any remarkable work carried out.
With the construction of the road, business activities within and around the communities is expected to bounce back.
