Nigerian footballer Oghenekaro Etemike, who plays for Slovan Velvary in the Czech Republic, has paid tribute to his late father, Godwin Etemike, a former Green Eagles star, for the significant role he played in shaping his career.

Etemike noted that beyond his father’s successful football career, he also took on other roles such as coaching, playing tennis, and was known for being a strict disciplinarian.

He further emphasized that his father valued education above sports, a principle that positively influenced those around him, including his children.

Speaking about his career and future plans, Etemike stated that he intends to keep pushing and improving his game, while also aiming to host unique tournaments in Nigeria — different from the typical ones held in the country.

In his words, “I want to host a 2-aside tournament where players can showcase their skills, and winners will go home with prizes.”
