As the women across the world celebrates the international women’s day, a frontline governorship aspirant in Cross River State, Efiok Cobham has stressed the need for more women to be given opportunity in different leadership positions across the country.
Mr. Cobham who is also a former deputy governor of the state described women as “better and efficient managers of both people and resources”
He promised to ensure that women are given the right of place if elected governor of the state.
Describing Cross River State women as some of the best in the country, the frontline governorship hopeful recalled giants strides made by great women like Margaret Ekpo and others as indelible in the annals of women emancipation in Nigeria.
According to him “The place of women in our society today can not be wished away, as there can be no better world without women. Across the globe, women are making great strides, contributing massively towards making our world a better place.
“In Nigeria, there are countless of women who are making us proud in different sub-sectors of our national life, including finance, pharmaceutical, agriculture, ICT among others.
“In Cross River, I am proud to say that our women belong to the league of trail blazing women that have remained indelible in the history of our nation. Women like the great Margaret Ekpo, who dared the odds and refused to fear the butts of the guns, so that her fellow women across the country could be freed”
He therefore, urged the National assembly to revisit all gender bills previously rejected by the NASS, ensure smooth passage of the bills in other to give Nigerian women more voice and participation in political and governance process of the country.
