KIDNAPPING: Armed Robbers, Not Herdsmen  Carried Out The Attack – Police

About 9 persons who were kidnapped yesterday along the Ugep-Akamkpa-Biase road in Cross River State have been rescued unhurt, this paper can confirm. 

The state police Public Relations officer, SP Irene Ugbo confirmed report of the release to our reporter in a telephone interview. 

According to her, the state commissioner of police, Sule Balarabe has also directed men of the Anti kidnapping unit of the force to go after the criminals and ensure their arrest. She also added that a total stop and check along the routes has been ordered. 

Contrary to reports that the kidnapping was carried out by herdsmen, the police image maker said the criminal activity was purely a robbery case where valuables including, phones, money and other items were stolen from the people. 

She assured that the police are currently going after the criminals and ensure they are apprehended and prosecuted according to the law.

Recall, yesterday that a group of criminals attacked travellers along the busy Ugep-Akamkpa-Biase road, shooting sporadically and kidnapped about 9 persons. 

Some travellers and locals had accused the attack to herdsmen.
