NBC Revokes Licenses of CRBC, 51 Other Broadcast Stations

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has revoked the licenses of Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) and 51 other Broadcast stations in Nigeria over debt owed the Commission.

The Director-General of NBC, Malam Balarabe Ilelah, who disclosed the development at a news conference today in Abuja, ordered the affected stations to shutdown in the next 24 hours due to their inability to pay over N2.6billion debt.

Ilelah also directed NBC offices nationwide to collaborate with security agencies to ensure immediate compliance of the order.

He explained that three months after the commission had published list of those indebted to NBC to renew their licenses in May 2022, some licensees are yet to pay their outstanding debts, in contravention of the NBC Act CAP N11, laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, particularly section 10 (a) of the third schedule of the Act.

He urged all broadcast stations who have not renewed their licences for the current duration to do so within the next 30 days to avoid sanctions.

He also called on all Internet Protocol Television and all other broadcast stations that are streaming online to register with the commission to avoid disconnection.
