Otu Unveils Upgraded Medical Facility in Calabar, Prioritizes Health in Administration

The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has unveiled a state-of-the-art primary healthcare facility in Calabar, aimed at addressing the health needs of the Nyanghasang community and tackling maternal mortality rates in the state.

The Governor re-echoed health as a top priority in his administration, expanding on the significance of a healthy population for societal well-being and economic prosperity.

“In our manifesto and projections, we’ve emphasized the centrality of health. Without a healthy populace, we cannot build a thriving community or nation,” stated Governor Otu during the unveiling ceremony. He reiterated his to reducing both infant and adult mortality rates, pointing out the importance of ensuring access to quality healthcare services for all citizens.

The primary healthcare facility, which will offer free services including ante-natal care, check-ups, and childbirth, reflects the government’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare to all residents. The Governor announced plans to replicate similar facilities across the state, stating the importance of primary healthcare in reaching a larger segment of the population.

Commissioner for Health, in his remarks, affirmed that the health facility’s model would be extended statewide, ensuring that quality healthcare services are available to all citizens. He reiterated that all services at the facility would be provided free of charge, re-affirming the government’s commitment to promoting health equity.

Representing the Clan Council, Comrade Iso Bassey Edim expressed gratitude for the Governor’s unprecedented intervention in healthcare, particularly benefiting the Nyanghasang community. Iso commended the Governor’s holistic approach to development, acknowledging both infrastructural advancements and the newfound focus on healthcare.
