Member representing Akamkpa/Biase federal constituency in the house of representatives, Hon. Daniel Asuquo has decamped from the People’s Democratic Party.
In a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in his Akamkpa Urban ward, the lawmaker who was a gubernatorial aspirant during the just concluded PDP primary elections highlighted “the decision by some group of people in the party to pursue a narrow and sectional interest as against the interest of the masses” as one of his reasons for leaving the party.
“Consequently, I am by this letter intimating you of my total withdrawal from all activities at the Ward, Local, State and National levels of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP),” he said.
According to the three term federal lawmaker “the hypocrisy of the party in its refusal to endorse power rotation for the gubernatorial position, while doing so for the deputy governorship position” is the height of disregard for the people of the southern senatorial district.
Although the Akamkpa born politician failed to make public his future political ambition in the letter, it is believed that he will be seeking to represent the people of the southern senatorial distract in the Senate under the platform of the labour party.
Already, his campaign office located along the busy Marian road bears the logo of the labour party, investigation by this paper also indicate that the lawmaker may be officially unveiling his new political party in the coming days.
