PDP CRISIS: Sandy, Vena Other Wike Loyalists Snub Atiku’s Presidential Campaign Inauguration In C’River.

By Our Reporter

The crisis currently bedeviling the main opposition People’s Democratic Party seems to be far from over as loyalists of the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike on Saturday snubbed the official inauguration of their presidential campaign council in Calabar.

The widely publicized event which was scheduled to take place at 3pm on Saturday, 11 November, did not commence until few minutes before 5pm.

Our sources say, the delay in the commencement was largely due to the refusal of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Prof. Sandy Onor, state party chairman, Vena Ikem and other loyalists of the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike to honor the invitation.

Our reporter who monitored the event, said sensing serious embarrassment, former governor, Liyel Imoke had to abruptly bring the event to an end, just few minutes after the commencement of the program.

The inauguration which was a huge failure had in attendance, Sen. Gershom Bassey, who is also, chairman of the committee, Liyel Imoke and a handful of other supporters.

Gubernatorial candidate, Sandy Onor who failed to turn up at the event, supposedly due to Wike's overwhelming influence , was to serve as the vice chairman.

Onor, a close ally of Wike and first time lawmaker, had defeated Gershom Bassey in a party primaries many described as ‘highly commercialized' to clinch the party’s ticket. This paper had reported how delegates during the primaries were paid between N1 and N2m each.

While many described the action of Sany Onor and his group as unreasonable, several supporters of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubarka have vowed to work against the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state if they continue to frustrate the presidential candidate.

“we can’t continue like this, Sandy and his group who are feeding fat from River state money have continued to work again our presidential candidate, because they take instructions from Port Harcourt. If Sandy wins as governor, it will mean that we will no longer have our own state, they will rule us from River state. We won’t allow that to happen, because we are not second class citizens” a source who did not want to be mentioned said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Presidential Director General and former governor of State, Senator Liyel Imoke, said that the beginning of the future for the next president of Nigeria is now, to recover the country.

He made the statement during the inauguration of the presidential campaign committee in Cross River State.

“The time to recover our country and our state is on cause and until we do the right thing, Nigeria and Cross River will continue to suffer.

According to him, “Nigeria today is in poverty, hunger, insecurity and the only person to deliver us is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who is to take us back to our normal lives”.

He charged PDP members across the country to support Alhaji Atiku Abubarka as the nation gets ready to elect new sets of leaders cone 2023.
