For 23-year-old Super Eagles and Pari Nizhny Novgorod attacker Olakunle Olusegun, making his debut for the Nigerian national team was a dream fulfilled. The former golden eaglet described his first appearance for the Super Eagles as an unforgettable experience. “Playing for my country at the top level is something I can’t explain,” he said. “They called me, I came, and I played.” The young forward, full of ambition, believes this is only the beginning of greater things to come. “I believe more is still coming, and I have that belief,” he added with a smile.
Beyond the excitement of his debut, Olusegun reflected on his time in camp, where he has built strong bonds with his teammates. He highlighted his growing friendship with Moses Simon and Victor Osimhen, two senior players who have taken him under their wing. “The person I always talk with every time is Moses Simon because he’s my senior man, and I need that encouragement,” Olusegun shared. “He and Osimhen always encourage me to keep improving.”

Training alongside Victor Osimhen, one of the world’s most admired strikers, left a lasting impression on the young forward. “In training, he doesn’t joke at all that’s something I’ve learned from him,” Olusegun said. “No matter where you find yourself, don’t joke with your work.” He described Osimhen as humble and approachable despite his superstar status. “He’s a very cool guy. Most people would be proud, but he’s not. He talks to everybody that’s what makes him a leader.”
Looking ahead, Olusegun is optimistic about Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying journey and the team’s chances of booking a place at the global showpiece. “We are determined and we know what we are going there for,” he said. “We’re hopeful for the future, and let’s see what the games hold.” For a player who believes the sky is only the beginning, Olusegun’s rise could be another bright story in the Super Eagles’ new generation.
