The Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria has inducted 165 radiography graduates of University of Calabar into the profession.
The event held at the University of Calabar International Conference Center, celebrated the unveiling of a new generation of Radiographers.
In her opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, represented by the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Prof Ekaete Enang expressed great pride in the institution’s legacy emphasizing that the University is a pioneer in training and awarding Radiography degrees, not only in Nigeria but across Africa.
She reminded the graduates that the induction marked the beginning of their professional journey, urging them to uphold the value of their certificates, protect the dignity of their profession, and maintain the institution’s stellar reputation.
The Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Ngim E. Ngim, applauded the graduates for their hard work and commitment throughout their academic journey.
He encouraged them always to remember the contributions of their teachers, parents, and the university in achieving this significant milestone.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. Nelson Osuchukwu, described the ceremony as a momentous occasion.
He said, “You deserve to be celebrated for this achievement. As you step into the professional world, I urge you to adhere strictly to the code of Radiography ethics. Practice your profession with honesty, humility, diligence, transparency, and reverence for God.”
In a congratulatory address, the Head of the Radiography Department, Dr. Samson Omini Paulinus, lauded Radiography as a prestigious and noble profession.
He reminded the graduates of their duty to uphold the highest standards of practice.
The National President of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN), Dr Musa Yusuf Dembele, represented by the Cross River State ARN President, Mr Oyama Abeng, congratulated the inductees and urged them to let their oath guide every professional decision they make.
He highlighted the importance of patient confidentiality, prioritizing radiation safety, and advocating for equitable access to quality healthcare services.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), Prof. Mark Okeji, underscored the role of integrity in Radiography.
He advised the graduates to adhere strictly to the ethics and rules of the profession, noting that their integrity would distinguish them in their careers.
The induction lecture, titled “Nuggets for a Successful Career as a Nigerian Radiographer,” was delivered by Dr. Bassey Eyo Archibong.
He encouraged the graduates to maximize the opportunities presented during their internship period, which he described as a critical phase for growth, skill refinement, and professional development.
Obu Kelvin Simeon, the department’s best-graduating student, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the lecturers and parents for their unwavering dedication and support in making their dreams a reality.
