There was pandemonium around Ikot Ansa axis of Calabar metropolis on Wednesday as some students of Estate Secondary school and Government College both of Ikot Ansa, Calabar, engaged in a serious fight leading to the injury of many.
This paper learnt the disagreement happened as an outcome of a football match between both schools, which shares the same compound.
Eye witnesses and some students who spoke with The Parchment said students from both schools freely used dangerous weapons on each other.
One eye witness told this reporter, that she saw atleast three students brandishing poisonous knives and another a battle axe as they pursued hard after another student.
The pandemonium made the ever busy Ikot Ansa road to be deserted as passerby scampered for safety.
When our reporters visited the school, calm had been restored but reliable sources within the schools said as the fracas continued along Ekpo Iso street, principal of one of the schools alerted men of the Nigerian police who came in and made some arrests.
“so far, some boys have been arrested and they are currently in the police custody. What we realized was that, those were not our students. Some of them were expelled from the school while some cult boys from outside came to make the matter worse. But principals of both school had to work together by calling the police to restore calm. We are glad that peace has been restored” said a senior staff from Estate Secondary School.
Secret cult activities in secondary schools in the country has assumed a dangerous dimension with the killing of 12 years old Sylvester Oromoni a student of Dowen College in Lagos.
The Edo state police command also yesterday announced the arrest of over 49 secondary school students over cult clash.
