Atleats two persons have lost their lives in a violent clash between two rival cult groups in Ugep, Yakurr LGA of Cross River State.
Ugep which is perhaps one of the most populated urban city after Calabar, has in recent times recorded several violence clashes, most of which are cult related.
According to sources, problem started during the Yekpi (Lobbo) day of the the annual Leboku festival in the heavily populated town where the cult groups had a misunderstanding and started throwing stones and fighting each other.
The clash which sources say almost marred the festival, caused residents to scamper for safety. Until some elders from the community stepped in to restore peace.
Some members of the rival group who were badly injured, we were told reportedly vowed to revenge.
True to their word, a popular hangout in Ugep, suspected to be that of a member of a rival cult group was attacked, leaving many properties destroyed and many injured.
The action led to a reprisal that resulted in the death of two persons while many sustained various degrees of injury.
Cult clashes have become a common occurrence in many villages in Cross River State, including Calabar, the state capital.
