Leadership of the senior staff club of the University of Calabar, Unical recently honoured Senator Prince Bassey Otu with a lifetime membership.
The former lawmaker who was represented at the event by the dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Cyril Ndifon was honoured for his selfless service to the society and numerous contribution to the development of Nigeria and Cross River State in particular.
Others who were also honoured with a life time membership included the Chief Executive of Davandy group and politician, Etinyin Asuquo Ekpenyong, Arc. Bassey Ndem, Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong among others.
Vice chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Bisong who graced the occasion was also honoured as the grand patron of the club.
Prof. Chike Ekeopara, president of the club in an address said it was the tradition of the club to honour those who have made giant strides and contributed immensely to the development of the society.
He acknowledged that the 2021 event was important because it marked the investiture as grand patron of the first female vice chancellor of the university.
“ It is the tradition of the university senior staff club to organize an event such as this to honour some of her members and carefully selected distinguished Nigerians, who have contributed in very significant ways to the development of the Club and the society in general” he said
Sen. Bassey Otu have continued to receive several awards for his selfless contributions to both community and human capital development within and outside the state years after leaving the red chambers.
