UNICAL suspends 4 students over water ritual act at the last matriculation

The University of Calabar Management through the office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi has suspended 4 students of the institution who were identified in a viral video and found culpable of partaking in the unlawful act of water ritual on a fellow student during the last matriculation ceremony.
The Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe in a press release issued on Saturday, January 7, 2023, identified the culpable students as Stephen Howard Usen (Accounting- Year4), Aniefiok Precious Idorenyin (Computer Science--Year2), Miracle Ayomide Adeyemi (Pol Sc-Year2) and Blessing Queen (Genetics & Biotech-Year4).
According to the press release, the Management had deliberated extensively on the report of the Committee on Gender-Based Violence and its findings and has directed the affected students to proceed on suspension with effect from the 2020/2021 academic session.
“Deans, Heads of Departments and other relevant officers of the University have been tasked with the duty of full compliance with the given directive.” The statement added.
