Prof. Francisca Bassey, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) is optimistic that the University can institute regular Convocation ceremonies with her at the helms of affair.

Prof. Bassey disclosed this on Thursday, March 20, 2025 while speaking at the 50th Anniversary/37th Convocation of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) at the International Conference Centre, Calabar.

She commended her counterpart in UNICAL, Prof Florence Obi for putting together a memorable event to mark the 50th anniversary of the university where she was working until her appointment to head UNICROSS.

According to her “I thank God for the wisdom He has given to the VC to be able to pull out this good representation from across the country starting from the Senate President to the Deputy Speaker and the ‘Who is Who’ in attendance today. This brings us back to the fact that education plays a pivotal role in the development of the nation and that is why I keep saying that you can’t do without us.

“Kudos to my senior colleague and Professor. Kudos to you as a woman of strength, from the beginning you hit the ground running  because God prepared you for a time like this and we can all see that your tenure has been a successful one. We can all see the transformation you’ve brought all round ranging from the structures, manpower, students, and I want to say congratulations to you”.

She further applauded the Guest Lecturer, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives for his insightful lecture.

“The Honourable Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives did a very good job. And I am glad, he is a product of the University of Calabar. You could see that he was able to remember almost all his lecturers. That shows that he is appreciative of the role these lecturers have played in his life and the rest of us”, she added.
