A former caretaker Chairman of Calabar Municipality and veteran Journalist, Elder Oqua Itu is dead.
Family sources told The Parchment the respected media icon did not show any sign of sickness before he died.
“papa was not sick, it was his wife who has been in and out of the hospital for sometimes now. He was even the one who will sometime take his wife to the hospital whenever he was free”our source said.
When our reporter visited family house of the deceased, sympathisers were seen wearing a mournful look.
Elder Oqua Itu, who was highly respected by Journalists in the state, was also a one time General Manager of the state owned newspaper outfit, the Nigerian Chronicle.
An elder of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, he was until his death, the state coordinator, International Institute of Journalism, Calabar study center.
After his retirement from the State Civil Service, he remained committed to the traditional institution of the Qua nation, where he played several key roles in promoting the Qua culture and traditions.
