The Cross River State government has promised to investigate the actual cause of the fire outbreak along Hewett street in Calabar.

The Special Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on general duties, Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba who disclosed this when he visited the scene on Thursday.

According to Barr. Akiba, the investigation was necessary so as to motivate against future occurrence.

“Although what we are hearing from residents here and those directly affected is that the electrical cables from light poles could be the cause of the fire incident, we are not taking anything for granted thatbis why government will ensure a full scake investigation to ascertain the actual cause.

“Apart from that, the government hopes to gather a database of the affected trades so as to plan on how to settle them. Already, the Director General of SEMA has been informed and she will reach them shortly “

The government said the incident was unfortunate and cautioned people to always watch out and report to the relevant government agency whenever they see anything  wrong around their areas.

Barr. Akiba was accompanied during the visit by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Edem Darlington, Special Assitant, New Media, Andrea Ekeng and other top government officials
