The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has stated that the University and its environs have enjoyed relative peace since the arrival of the Commander of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Calabar.
The Vice Chancellor stated this during a visit by the Commander, Brig. Gen. Muftau Ibrahim and his Team at her office on Tuesday 18th February, 2025.
While welcoming them, she expressed her gratitude for the Commander’s visit, noting that even though the university management has not yet formally visited him since his arrival in the state, the campus has experienced a period of calm.
Prof. Obi also commended the Nigeria Army for consistently supporting their personnel’s pursuit of further education, which enhances productivity in their fields.
She further called for increased synergy and cooperation, especially during the forthcoming convocation and UNICAL’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
Earlier, the Commander, Brig. Gen. Muftau Ibrahim, thanked the Vice Chancellor and her management for hosting him and his Team.
The Commander emphasized that the security of the university and everyone on campus is of utmost importance to them.
He also noted that one of Nigeria’s challenges is loss of values and lax border security, adding that many of those committing crimes are not Nigerians but outsiders who have invaded our land.
He concluded by stating that Nigeria is a promising country in terms of security compared to others, and although achieving zero incident is unrealistic, continuous efforts are being made to minimize such occurrences.
