The swimming events at the ongoing FASU 2024 took center stage today at the University of Lagos swimming center with American University in Cairo, Egypt (AUC), harvesting 7 gold medals.
The events which began with the 800m freestyle men saw Ali Mohammed of American University in Cairo winning the first gold medal with Mugisha Jacob of Makerere of University, Uganda winning silver and Colin Senam Kekeli of University of Ghana with bronze.
In the 200m butterfly men, Ahmed Tarec and Ali Mohammed of American University won gold and silver respectively with Colin Senam Kekeli of University of Ghana with bronze.
The 200m individual relay men had Ali Mohammed and Karim Mohammed of American University win gold and silver medals respectively while Mugisha Jacob of Makerere University, Uganda, won bronze.
The women 1500m freestyle saw an upset in the event with Victoria Okumu of United States International University, Kenya clinch gold, while Zelha Haytham and Sarah Ahmed of American University in Cairo wining the silver and bronze respectively.
The Cairo Pour Hussein side won gold in 100m women freestyle, Peremoboere Kimiakigha of Benson Idahosa University, Nigeria with silver and Haya Zaha of American University in Cairo with bronze.
Others medals included 200m butterfly women – Zelna Haythan of American University with Gold, Omoniyi Semilore of University of Lagos, Nigeria with silver.
200m individual relay women Sarah Ahmed of American University won gold, Zeina Haythan of American University with silver and Peremoboere Kimiakigha of Benson Idahosa University, Nigeria with bronze.
The 4 x 100m mixed medley relay had American University in Cairo clinch gold, United States International University, Kenya with silver and University of Lagos, Nigeria with bronze.
