… promises better representation

The member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency Hon. Bassey Akiba, says his mandate is to serve his people that voted for him, emphasizing that all campaign promises of economic, health and education remains his priority.
Hon. Akiba made the declaration today, at the Calabar Cultural Centre where he hosted his constituents in a town hall meeting to interact and also respond to all questions from his people since he assumes office last year June.
He stressed that federal legislators can do their job better if there is fewer financial demands from people which is capable of distracting them from their core lawmaking, representation and oversight functions.
“l wants to believe that my people that sent me to the National Assembly know exactly why they sent me there. The business of the parliament is anchored on three planks; representation. I should also bring feedback on government policies back to the people because the constitution envisages that everybody cannot come to the National Assembly at the same time so one person out of the many will represent their constituency at a given time.
“So representation essentially means taking the message of the people to the people and taking what government says about the people back to them. Lawmaking which is all about making laws for good governance also needs to involve the people and that is why I am engaging with you, my constituents, to hear from you, so that l can convey your concerns to the government and relay the feedback from government back to you.” He added
The 23 wards in the Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency took turns to asked various question ranging from the current economic situation, youth empowerment and health as it concerns them.
Hon. Bassey Akiba who also doubles as Chairman House Committee on healthcare Services, while responding to questions appeal to his people to exercise patience as the country is in a transition stage trying to put things on track and in order, assuring that he will ensure that he will deliver on what he can for his people.
