Students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Calabar, had on Wednesday 26th, June 2024 rallied in their numbers round the school campus with a solidarity march to the office of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Florence Obi to express their gratitude to her for the full  accreditation granted to their faculty by the National Universities commission (NUC).

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, the Vice Chancellor said, “Months ago, we were featured in newspapers in a way that was meant to undermine us. COREN claimed that UNICAL was running a fake engineering program. We responded with a press conference, explaining that we couldn’t invite COREN until the NUC had accredited us.”

She continued, “Today, we have moved beyond those challenges. We are now on good terms with COREN. With the full NUC accreditation to run our engineering programs, we will soon invite COREN for their professional license. I am confident we will earn it.”

The Vice Chancellor’s remarks were met with applause and cheers, symbolizing a new era of recognition and legitimacy for the engineering faculty at the University of Calabar.
